Silence.
Sunday, 10 January 2010

Greetings all. It's been quite a while since I last posted something here. To explain the silence, after I finished school, things kinda went into limbo while I tried to figure out what my next step was going to be. I started the Great Job Hunt™ and that took up most of any extra time that I had. And to be honest, after school was done, I was a bit burnt out on doing artstuffs. I needed a break. Well, the Great Job Hunt™ was epic fail. I looked all over in a wide variety of places and there's just nothing out there for me right now. I played some percentages. I took some risks. In the end, I'm not any closer to finding a new job. I spent time in California looking. I'm currently in Chicago, after being here for 3 months. I have to say that I come back here somewhat defeated. I've had plenty of possibilities, but after the initial stab, I've been left with dead air. With that, I have to admit my defeat and try to move on. I'm heading back to where I came, back to Utah to see if my old job is still there. I think it is. We'll find out in a few days.

Beyond that, I'm hoping that the time off will allow me to pick up the comic here. It's going to be a bit of a trial since I haven't really drawn anything since the last page here. And that was a long time ago. I'll have to ease back into it I'm sure, but I'm still alive and hopefully ready to get back to work.

A day late.
Tuesday, 26 May 2009

My apologies that the page is late today. It was a long weekend, even with Memorial Day being yesterday. I got a new hard drive for my computer this last week and it always take a while to reinstall things. It seemed that every time I got to the next thing on the comic, I needed to install something or some files weren't transferred back to the machine. I finally got everything done up though.

Hope everyone enjoys the new page. Got some new characters this go round as well. Here you get to meet Dori, the door mouse and Zephyr, a meddlesome little warrior-type that messed around with a transformation spell and turned himself into a pixie. And yes, around here, pixies are all girls. He'll... er, she'll have some learning to do, as you can see in this week's page. Enjoy!

Long day... but new page.
Monday, 11 May 2009

It's been along day. I'm tired. But there is a new page. Enjoy. I'm going to sleep. _-_

BFA
Monday, 27 April 2009

After a big pile of pain and suffering, it's finally done. The big gallery show for my Bachelors degree is finally up. The opening reception is tomorrow night and then the final piece of the degree is one class that will last 7 weeks. The final FINAL is June 24th.

But that said, I'm going to try to get things back to "normal" in the coming week or two. I have finals and the graduation ceremonies this week and then I know I'm going to need some time to recoperate. After that, I'm going to try to get back into the groove.

Lost time. (again.)
Monday, 9 February 2009

Time has gotten away from me again. Granted, I was kinda expecting it. This is my FINAL semester for school. I have the big Gallery Show that will feature the poster designs that I've been posting here. But, with that, it's taking all my time to get all the posters ready for the Big Show. I want to get something new story-wise, but I'm not sure how that's going to work out with how the semester is going to go. I'll play it as it comes, but there may be very few "real" updates between now and the end of the semester.

And, for the curious, the Big Show is scheduled between April 26th and May 9th. I have to have EVERYTHING nailed down before then. :)

Wish me luck. Unitl then, I have the work in progress for Poster Concept #4 online today. Just to show that I'm still here. :) I do have to say that #4 is the most mabitious of the set so far. And there will ne one more design that I have to work on as well, the 1910-1920s style poster. I'll be happy when they're done. :)

Thanks to everyone for sticking with me here while I get all this schooling out of the way.

Snow.
Monday, 12 January 2009

So, I have to appologize for last week. I had the majority of page 033 done and we got hit with some major snowstuffs. I think we ended up with like 3 feet of snow out here. Monday and Tuesday after I got home from work and school, I had to shovel the walks. It's a tiring job, as most people who live in cold climates will attest. I was so wiped out that I didn't have the energy to get the comic done. Then school started up again on Wednesday. At least we have a comic this week. :)

Lookie! A new page!
Monday, 29 December 2008

Hope everyone is having a great holiday. Just a short message here to let everyone now that there's FINALLY a new page online. Another poor transformation victim. :)

Enjoy! And Happy New Year everyone!

Down to the wire
Monday, 15 December 2008

It's Finals Week and I'm running down to the wire on the poster designs. I've got Poster #3 for everyone this week. it's close to being done. They all have to be wrapped up tomorrow, so it's almost done done done. Hopefully that ail let me have some time to resume story updates.

Work in Progress
Monday, 8 December 2008

So, the semester is almost over and there's just one left to go (and change. One more class after next semester and then I'm done.) School has still been eating time, so everything that I've been doing is just school work. But part of that are the poster designs for my Senior project. I have the latest work in progress here posted as page 030. I have to have all the posters and a website done by the 17th, so it's going to be uber busy days for the next 2 weeks, but it'll be good when its done. More later.

BFA.
Monday, 10 November 2008

It took the administration at school a while to get it all figured out, but I finally was notified that I got into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University. Granted, I only have a semester and a half left, but better to find out later than never. It adds one more "semester" but I'll be better off with a BFA in Graphic Design than a Bachelor of Science in generic artstuffs

Last free Saturday... gone.
Monday, 25 August 2008

I have to apologize yet again. There won't be a comic this week. Yeah, that's nothing new, is it? This weekend was just crazy. Moreso than usual since it's the weekend before school starts again. First I had a con planning meeting up in Salt Lake City, then I had a bunch of stuff that I ended up having to do that prevented any art from happening.

One really big something that I got done was getting AtomicFoxtail Studios, the company that I publish all the fun stuff here from, set up as an LLC (that's a Limited Liability Company for those that have never hear that before). Now the company is actually real and if/when the time comes, I'll acutally be able to hire extra people and have them on payroll. It's nice to finally be "official".

I've also been working on some prep stuff for the Artist's Alley at Anime Banzai in October. More just prelim type stuff. I need to come up with some more "popular" stuff to sell too. I've got a lot of "old school" stuff, but little new anime-related stuff. Having never been in the Artist's Alley, it's going to be a trip I'm sure. Of course, I'm staffing as well, so I'll be doing triple duty as well, helping staff the AA itself and then running the Print and Production department from my AA table, but that's ok. I'll be happy if I sell anything, but I'm not getting high hopes. We'll see what happens.

So, as is par for the course around here, there's nothing to see this week, but I'll be working on a new page for next week... Hopefully school staring on Wednesday won't through everything off.

Unitl then, enjoy Alice in her rolled-up state. :

Scrolling along...
Wednesday, 20 August 2008

Page 027 is finally up. Here, Alice experiences a different change.

Many apologies as well. This week's page was delayed a bit because of some client meetings for my "real" job. I do have to say that I'm really happy with how this week's page turned out. It's probably the most difficult page I've done to date, but that's a good thing. :) Got to give big props to transformation artist Jeff Cordova, a.k.a. Sebastian Blackcat, for the visual ideas for the transformation sequence on the page this week. I saw his Teen Titans scroll transformation and loved his simple execution. Check out his art page at http://www.bastianmage.com/ (There is mature audience stuff on there, so surfers beware if you need to.)

Enjoy! :)

Armageddon is upon us...
Friday, 15 August 2008

This week has been rather funky. Beyond last weekend's bout of convention work that prevented the comic updates (if you're curious what took all my time, head on over to the Anime Banzai website), this has just been rather tiring this week. I decided that I needed to work on something unrelated to everything. I pulled this out of the archives. I did the original version of this in 1992, right after Mortal Kombat came out.I had been watching Tenchi a lot back then, and it kinda fit... Now, MK has changed quite a bit over the years and with all the changes in the last 16 years, I decided that it was time for an update. So here's Ryoko Kombat Armageddon!

Beyond that, I do have sketches for the next comic going. I just need to finish some clean up. There should be somethign new on Monday. Until then, enjoy Ryoko. :)

Adventures to SDCC
Tuesday, 29 July 2008

So, this last week, I was on vacation. First vacation in over a year. As my family tends to do, we head to Disneyland. While the family chills there, I head down to the San Diego Comic-Con for a day or two. Thursday was my Comic-Con day. I needed to hook up with Richard and Wendy of Elfquest fame, to discuss the upcoming web revamp. I was also taking my brother Dana to see the con for the first time. We left Anaheim at around 7:20 am and get on the 5 Freeway. Going ok, until we're about to get to San Onofre. Then the traffic stops. And stops. And stops.....

4 hours later, we finally get to the reason why the traffic had been throughly killed. At 5:09am, a Vons grocery truck was driving along when it hit a mini-van that was parked on the side of the road. It had been in an accident earlier and was unoccupied, but being hit at 65+MPH, it created quite the mess. The big rig slammed into the van, tossing it up the hill about 30 feet, then the rig rolled a couple of times before the gas tanks finally burst into flames. The driver got out before it went up fortunately. However, the fire from the tanks lit the brush on the side of the road and ended up burning 4 acres of brush and torched the mini-van.

When we finally got to the accident, around 11:30am, 4 hours after we left on a 2 hour drive, traffic was still pretty much reduced to one lane.

Yes, that's one lane, with rush hour traffic from L.A. to San Diego AND people coming down for the first day of the Comic-Con.

All told, it took about 5 1/2-6 hours to get to San Diego. I was only able to spend about an hour at the convention cause we had to be back in Anaheim for a dinner appointment. I did get to hook up with Richard and Wendy. That was pretty much it.

The only GOOD thing that happened all day was being able to finally hit up the In-N-Out. I sooooooo needed a 4x4 after all that driving.

Now that the vacation and the adventures associated with it are done, I really NEED to get back to drawing. I've been a total slacker. Yes, I know. I suck. I need to get something done this week.

Workin' My Way Back
Thursday, 26 June 2008

Oh how life can get away from you. Spring semester at school really killed me with homework. It was a really bad semester for schedules getting screwed up. I had 4 teachers, three of which were under some dilusion that they were the only class that I had and that I had plenty of time to spend like 30 hours a week on just their class. Yes, times three. 90 hours a week. Not to mention that I have to work at least 30 hours a week. Mind you, that's 120 hours a week. Weeks in MY universe only have 168 hours in them. The demanding schedule really killed any "extracurricular" activities that I had. The comic suffered the most.

After the semester ended, I got tossed into uber-deadline mode at work, so things got killed again...

Today is the first day AFTER all the deadlines. Things will hopefully be much more dead around here for a while. (At least until the semester starts up again in August.)

While I'm sure all three of you that are reading the comic are slightly miffed that I haven't updated in like 4 months, I'm finally at a point where I can try to get back into the "groove" and get things goign again. I'm hoping to have a new page up for Monday.

Here's to hoping. ::crosses fingers::

Page 025
Monday, 11 February 2008

So, we finally have a little bit of action. Here we introduce everyone to Chesh and another of the Pixies, Jincha. All those poor low level cards... They're not much of a challenge.

I started a new process for the comic production with this latest chapter. I'm doing my sketches on paper for the general setup for things and then I'm inking and coloring in Photoshop. It seems to do a bit better with getting lines set up for the inking. I'm also getting the layouts for the pages done before I start inking, so it's more like "real" comic production. It seems to be a better process than the old one. We'll see where that goes. Now, it's back to homework. :)

Chapter 2 Begins
Monday, 4 February 2008

So, things have been thrown off a bit here, but Chapter 2 is about to begin. Alice is out cold underneath the tree, but the story is about to pick up... Today's page, 024, is the new chapter page where we introduce you all to Lady Ecila, Alice's reflected nemisis. Next week we should get back to some action.

As you can see, I'm also in the process of streamlining some of the webstuff too. I'm still working on that stuff a bit, but I wanted to get this up right now so we can get things moving in a positive direction.

More when I have it. :)
